Title
Protect former Croydon South Primary School site
Grievance
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the recent move by the Victorian Government to initiate the sale of state land of the former Croydon South Primary School site on Belmont Road West, Croydon South. Since the closure of the Croydon South Primary School, residents have fought to protect the public open space and environment that remains. It has recently been announced that a portion of the land owned by the Government, is to be sold off, most likely to property developers.

Open space in our already dense community provides many aesthetic and intrinsic benefits. Open space encourages physical activity, can aid in the reduction of pollution, a place for children to grow and play, provides an important wild-life corridor and can benefit the mental health of local residents. Open space is getting harder to come by and local residents do not want to see high density development on this site. We want this land to remain in the hands of the community and call on the Government to protect this site as a public open space.
Action
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to allow the land of the former Croydon South Primary School on Belmont Road West, Croydon South, to remain in the hands of the community and protected as public open space.
