Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Calder Freeway upgrades
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention the Legislative Council the need for the Government to work with the Commonwealth Government, to jointly invest in and fix the Calder Freeway corridor. The corridor has previously been identified as one of the State’s most dangerous roads, with over 100 people involved in crashes between 2015 and 2019 alone, and identified by Infrastructure Australia as one of the State’s most congested roads.
Funding is urgently required to improve safety, reduce congestion and provide better access and connections to cater for population and freight growth across Melbourne’s West. Brimbank Council is advocating for a package of works to address these issues, which include upgrading the Calder Freeway from the Western Ring Road, Melton Highway to Gap Road in Sunbury, duplication of Calder Park Drive, a full diamond interchange at the intersection of the Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive and the removal of the Sunbury Line level crossing on Calder Park Drive.
These works can also stimulate the COVID-19 economic response and recovery efforts across Melbourne’s west.
The Petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to work with the Commonwealth Government to urgently invest in and fix the Calder Freeway corridor to make it safe and get it moving.
