Career

Emigrated to US 1848 and entered auctioneering business, New York and Boston; arrived Melbourne 1853; purchased town lots Sandridge, and set up as auctioneer, later extending to Melbourne; briefly partner Beauchamp & Byrne, and Byrne, Vale & Company 1875-1883.; director Melbourne Woollen Mills. Moved no-confidence motion which resulted in resignation of McCulloch government 1869.
