Christmas collection to help the homeless

Victorian parliamentary catering staff have organised a collection basket at Parliament House to help bring some Christmas cheer to people in need.

Blankets, clothing and other essentials are being collected outside of the catering service on the building’s ground floor.

Alumni formed to celebrate 25 years of internships

More than 1000 students have participated in the Victorian Parliamentary Internship Program since it commenced in 1990. To celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2015, an Alumni Association is being formed to reunite people who have participated in the program and to recognise their achievements.

The Victorian Parliament is calling on previous parliamentary interns to join the alumni and to send in photos of their time at parliament to help create a special pictorial history of the program.

Under the Pacific Parliamentary Partnerships program, Victorian MPs Andrew McIntosh and John Pandazopoulos recently visited Fiji to assist with induction training for Fiji MPs following the historic national elections in September.

ASEAN visit promotes understanding

Parliamentarians from nine countries belonging to the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) have visited Parliament House in Melbourne.

The visit was part of a delegation arranged to promote understanding of Australia among our closest neighbours.

The MPs were welcomed to the Victorian Parliament by Legislative Council President Bruce Atkinson.
