The Committee tabled its report on the Review of the Auditor-General's Reports January-June 2009 and follow-up of PAEC Reports 82, 86 and 91 ( 2.94 Mb) on Wednesday 14 March 2012.

The government response to the Review of the Auditor-General's Reports January-June 2009 and follow-up of PAEC Reports 82, 86 and 91 was tabled in Parliament on Wednesday 29 August 2012. A copy of the response can be found here( 904.54 Kb).

An important aspect of the Committee's work is to follow up on matters raised by the Auditor-General in various reports to the Parliament. The Auditor-General's reports draw Parliament's attention to financial concerns or performance issues relating to any public sector agency. The Committee can follow up these matters by virtue of its powers to hold public hearings and take evidence. In this way, matters raised by the Auditor-General in audit reports are scrutinised even further for the benefit of the Parliament and the community.

The Public Accounts and Estimates Committee has been following up audit reports tabled in Parliament by the Auditor-General every six months. The Committee prioritises these reports using various criteria including consideration of seriousness of impacts or implications of audit findings, public interest, risks, social impacts, criticality and unresolved disputes, materiality, opportunities to enhance accountability and consultation outcomes with the Auditor-General.

The Committee has resolved to retain a broad scope for its terms of reference, that is, to review any aspects of the findings and recommendations contained within those reports.

Review of the Findings and Recommendations of the Auditor-General's Reports tabled during January 2009 to June 2009

The Committee is currently conducting a review of the findings of the Auditor-General reports tabled between January 2009 to June 2009. The Committee has prioritised the following reports for review and public hearings:

Preparedness to Respond to Terrorism Incidence: Essential services and critical infrastructure (tabled January 2009); and
Access to Public Hospitals: Measuring Performance (tabled April 2009).

The Committee has invited written submissions from individuals and organisations with an interest or expertise in the subject matters, to address any aspects of the findings and recommendations contained within the reports above.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 3 June 2011. All submissions are treated as public documents, unless confidentiality is requested or the Committee exercises its discretion. Please contact the Committee secretariat on 8682 2862 or email the secretariat with any queries (email: paec@parliament.vic.gov.au).

The Committee requires all submissions to be signed hard copy originals, and would also appreciate receiving a disk or emailed copy, in Word or PDF format, where possible.

The Committee reserves the right to publish submissions received.

• Management of School Funds (tabled May 2009).
