What is the role of the Opposition?

The party or group of parties with a majority of Members in the Lower House forms the Government. The largest party or group of parties opposed to the Government forms the Opposition. The Opposition is the alternative government. Their role is to question the government about policies and administration and expose any failures or omissions and force action on these. They usually propose alternative policies and try to ensure that the Government is accountable to the Parliament. It should be noted that the Government and Opposition do not always disagree on all matters.
