John Delzoppo was born in Flemington in 1931.  He is married, with two sons and two daughters.  He was educated at University High School and later went on to gain a degree as a Pharmacist.  He worked as a Pharmaceutical Chemist for a number of years.

Delzoppo was elected to the district of Narracan for the first time in April 1982.  He was re-elected in 1985, 1988 and 1992.  He held the position of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1996.

He held a number of Parliamentary party positions including as Shadow Minister for Transport, Local Government, Water Resources, and Property and Services, and served on the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee.  He was Chairman of the Standing Orders Committee and House Committee.

Delzoppo lives in Warragul and is active in his local community.  He is an Honorary Anglican Lay Canon and member of the General Synod.
