On 19 December 2006, a Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee was formed for an interim period (expiring on 29 February 2007).

At the Committee's inaugural meeting on 20 December 2006, Mr Carlo Carli MLA (Brunswick) was elected the Committee Chair.

Previous chairs of the Committee were Ms Lily D'Ambrosio MLA (Mill Park) 2003-06, Ms Mary Gillett MLA (Werribee) 1999-2002, Mr Peter Ryan MLA (Gippsland South) 1996-1999 and Mr Victor Perton MLA (Doncaster) 1992-1996.
