A Privacy Code for Members of the Victorian Parliament

The Governor in Council, under section 4F of the Parliamentary Committees Act 1968, refers the following matters to the Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee:

1. The Committee shall investigate and make recommendations for a privacy code for Members of the Victorian Parliament with due regard to the following:

(i) current and emerging communications technologies;

(ii) the nature of work undertaken by Members in different capacities across the Parliament;

(iii) developments in privacy legislation in Victoria and other jurisdictions;

(iv) existing legislation and regulations relevant to the conduct of Victorian Members of Parliament;

(v) associated issues of Parliamentary privilege.

The Committee will report to Parliament by 31 December 2001.

2. The Committee shall also investigate and make recommendations for an interim privacy code for Members of the Victorian Parliament, and report these to Parliament by 31 May 2001.
