Annual Review 2005, March 2006Appendix 7 - Terms of Reference - Discrimination in the Law[Back to Table of Contents]Parliamentary Committees Act 1968 REFERRAL OF INQUIRY TO SCRUTINY OF ACTS AND REGULATIONS COMMITTEE OF PARLIAMENT Inquiry under section 207 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 Order in Council The Lieutenant-Governor as the Governor's deputy, with the advice of the Executive Council, under section 4F of the Parliamentary Committees Act 1968, requests that the: Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee of Parliament inquire into, consider and report to Parliament on: Provisions which discriminate, or may lead to discrimination, against any person as provided in section 207 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1995. In particular the Committee is requested to: 1) identify provisions in Victorian Acts and enactments that operate to discriminate, or may lead to discrimination, against any person; 2) consider policy considerations for the retention, amendment or repeal of the provisions; and 3) make recommendations as to whether the provisions should be retained, amended or repealed. In considering this reference the Committee should note the objectives of the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 which include: 1) to promote recognition and acceptance of everyone's right to equality; and 2) to eliminate, as far as possible, discrimination against people by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of various attributes.
