Parliament
at the Royal Melbourne Show
Thursday 21 September – Sunday 1 October 2006The Parliament of Victoria first had a stand at the Show in 1995. In 2006 the Parliament of Victoria was at the Royal Melbourne Show with the 150th anniversary travelling exhibition, Bills, Bells and Ballots – 150 years of Victoria’s Parliament.
Bills, Bells and Ballots was a multimedia exhibition that takes visitors on an entertaining walk through the history and role of the Parliament, starting with how Victoria began as a sheep run only to become the richest self-governing colony of the British Empire in just 20 years. Items rarely seen outside of Parliament House, such as the current Speaker’s chair and Menzies’ briefcase, were on show as part of the exhibition.
Bills, Bells and Ballots travelled throughout Victoria during 150th anniversary celebrations.
