Worked as a drover in England; emigrated Hobart 1829; butcher and government meat contractor till 1834; obtained land grant in Campbell Town area and built up large estates in Van Diemen's Land, Vic., South Australiaand NZ; lived in Van Diemen's Land till 1850; director Colonial Bank etc. Left estate of £2,500,000.;
