Career: An estate manager in Scotland; emigrated to Sydney Dec 1838; station manager; overlanded with sheep to Port Phillip c1845 and settled on a run at Clunes; subsequently owned many stations; large shareholder Goldsbrough Mort; director Melbourne and Hobson's Bay United Railway, etc; returned UK 1882.
