Career: Came to Vic. 1859; overseer for Dennis Bros. of Carr's Plains station in the Wimmera 1861; manager 1863; later leased the property, and in 1905 purchased the homestead with 15,000 acres; in 1890 he had purchased at Pomonal, near Stawell, a 400-acre property known as Glen Holford for orcharding, leaving Carr's Plains to the management of his son Herbert; was interested also in other properties in Vic. and NSW. Founder of two new breeds of sheep, the Ideal and the Carrsdale. President Stawell Agric. and Pastoral Society; member Kara Kara road board; first president Stawell branch Aust. Natives' Association. Stawell shire councillor and president several times
