Career: Surgeon on convict ships to Aust. from 1824; arrived Hobart Town as settler 1831; transferred to Port Phillip and appointed medical officer; to Geelong district 1837 and settled at Kardinia as a pastoralist, Ally of Dr Dunmore Lang and a leader of the Geelong community. Prominent in separation and anti-transportation movements. Prominent in drafting of constitution. First mayor Geelong 1850 and 1855-1857
