Career: Arrived Port Phillip via Launceston 1839; auctioneer Melbourne 1839-1843 and again 1846; squatter Boroondara early 1840s; formed a depot for cattle awaiting sale and started boiling down works during the 1842-1843 depression; bought land at the 1846 sales; owned several runs in other parts of Vic. A director National Bank 1860-1866, a commissioner Savings Banks of Vic., and held other public positions. His son, Robert, joined with Gideon Rutherford as pastoral agents c1855.
