Bob Smith was elected 19th President of the Legislative Council of Victoria on 19December 2006.
Bob was born in South Shields, England on 22 May 1948
Prior to entering Parliament, Bob served in the Royal Australian Navy for fifteen years, as a plant operator for a steel mill for nine years and as an official for the Australian Workers' Union for nine years.
Bob was educated at St Brendan's Primary School and Salisbury High School in Brisbane. Bob accepted a Harvard University Trade Union Program Scholarship in 1994.
In September 1999, Bob was elected as a Member of Parliament to represent the Electoral Province of Chelsea in the Legislative Council.
During his time in service for the Royal Australian Navy, Bob received the following awards:
Australian Active Service Medal;
Vietnam Logistic & Support Medal;
Australian Service Medal.
During his time as the Member for Chelsea, Bob has served as:
Member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee (1999-2002);
Chair, Family and Community Development Committee (2003-2006);
Member of the House Committee (1999-2002).
Bob’s memberships and interests have included:

Bob is married with two children.
