Review of the Members of Parliament (Register of Interests) Act 1978
Submissions
Have your say
The Law Reform Committee is seeking public submissions to its review of the Members of Parliament (Register of Interests) Act 1978.
The Act sets out a code of conduct for members of the Victorian Parliament. It also requires them to disclose certain financial and other interests that have the potential to conflict with their public duties, such as land and shareholdings, in a register.
The Act is available as a .pdf file from the Victorian Legislation and Parliamentary Documents website by clicking here.
The Terms of Reference for the review can be viewed here.
You can comment on any matter relevant to the Committee’s terms of reference in your submission. Some of these issues you might like to address are:
- the standards of conduct expected of members of parliament in Victoria
- the types of interests members of parliament or their families should have to disclose in the register of interests
- whether there should be an independent person to advise members of parliament about ethical issues related to the code of conduct or the register of interests.
Written submissions and comments should be sent by 29 May 2009 to:
Executive Officer
Victorian Parliament Law Reform Committee
Parliament House
Spring Street
EAST MELBOURNE VIC 3002
or by email to vplrc@parliament.vic.gov.au. Please ensure that you include at least one piece of verifiable contact information, such as a daytime telephone number or postal address.
Information about how to make a submission to the Committee is available here. This information can also be downloaded in brochure format (.pdf file (938Kb)).
All submissions and comments will be treated as public documents unless confidentiality is requested.
If you have any other questions about the review or how to make a submission, please contact the Committee on (03) 8682 2851 or vplrc@parliament.vic.gov.au.
