Inquiry into Sustainable Communities ![]() |
On 27 April 2004, the Environment and Natural Resources Committee received terms of reference from the Governor in Council to inquire into sustainable communities. The reference required the Committee to inquire into and report to the Parliament on opportunities to promote changes in the way we use energy, water and other natural resources at the local community and household level to reduce environmental impact. The full terms of reference can be viewed here. During the inquiry the Committee received 82 written submissions and met with over 130 individuals and organisations. The final report was tabled in Parliament in June 2005 and contained 72 recommendations which the Commitee believes will substantially strengthen sustainable consumption management and policy in Victoria. The Government's response to the Sustainable Communities report was tabled out of session on 3 January 2006.
