Inquiry
into Fisheries Management
The Committee has received two terms of reference related to fisheries management.
Terms of Reference for an Inquiry into Fisheries Management Across Victoria were referred to the Committee by Order of the Governor in Council published in the Victorian Government Gazette on 29 February 2000 and subsequently also referred to the Committee by the Legislative Assembly on 14 March 2000.
Terms of Reference for an Inquiry into the Sustainable Management of the Victorian Abalone and Rock Lobster Fisheries were referred to the Committee by resolution of the Legislative Council on 1 March 2000.
The Committee has resolved to undertake the two Terms of Reference concurrently.

The Report outlines the findings and recommendations relating to co-management arrangements for Victoria fisheries.
The Report covers the Committee's investigations into fisheries management arrangements including Government agencies, the Fisheries Co-Management Council, fishery committees and the recognised peak bodies. It also includes an overview of fisheries management and co-management arrangements in and around Australia.
The Inquiry Report was tabled in Parliament on 5 December 2001 (Legislative Council) and 26 February 2002 (Legislative Assembly).

The Minister for Energy and Resources reported to the Parliament on 5 June 2002 on the action that the Government proposed to take in response to the recommendations of the Committee.
