CHAPTER SIX OPTIONS FOR BALLAST WATER TREATMENT

In Term of Reference (a) the Committee is asked to make recommendations on the management of ballast water in Victoria. Term of Reference (d) requires that the Committee discuss the effectiveness of State based measures to minimise the environmental impact of ballast water management. In addressing these Terms of Reference it is necessary for the Committee to examine ballast water treatment options. This section focuses on the preventative aspects of ballast water management and treatment of ballast water prior to its discharge into the environment.
