Inquiry into the Incidence of Youth Unemployment in Victoria
and Options for Promoting Employment Growth Over the Coming Decade

On 1 March 2000, the Economic Development Committee of the Victorian Parliament received a Terms of Reference by resolution of the Legislative Council to inquire into the incidence of youth unemployment in Victoria and options for promoting employment growth over the coming decade.
The Reference requires the all-party Committee to inquire into the frequency of youth unemployment in Victoria, including the differing incidence of unemployment amongst male and female young people and unemployment in migrant, Aboriginal and non-English speaking background communities; youth employment needs in Victoria; the role of Government in helping generate employment opportunities for young people; initiatives implemented in other jurisdictions to address youth unemployment; and social, economic and industrial matters specific to unemployed young people.
