On 29 February 2000, the Economic Development Committee of the Victorian Parliament received a Terms of Reference from the Governor-in-Council to inquire into the Goods and Services Tax in Victoria.

The Reference requires the all-party Committee to assess the impact on the Victorian economy of the GST on the competitiveness of small and medium sized businesses with particular reference to regional Victoria.

On 29^th August, the Committee tabled an Interim Report in relation to this Inquiry in the Legislative Council, thereby complying with its Terms of Reference to table the report by the first sitting day of the 2000 Parliamentary Spring Session. The Committee's Final Report will be tabled in October.
