Parliament of Victoria Legislative Council Standing Orders Committee

The Standing Orders Committee reviews proposals for changes to the Legislative Council's Standing Orders (rules of procedure). The Committee is appointed at the start of each Parliament and meets as required. There is currently no reference before the Committee.

Work of previous Committee (55th Parliament)

In the 55th Parliament the Committee tabled an Interim Report on a Review of the Standing Orders, recommending the appointment of a Legislation Committee in the form of trial Sessional Orders.

The Council agreed to the Sessional Orders recommended by the Standing Orders Committee and a Legislation Committee was subsequently trialled in the first half of 2006.

The Standing Orders Committee continued its review of all Standing and Sessional Orders, including the operation of the Legislation Committee throughout the year and tabled its Final Report on a Review of the Standing Orders on 23 August 2006. The Report was considered by the Council prior to the conclusion of the 55th Parliament, culminating in a resolution that new Standing Orders come into operation at the commencement of the next Parliament.
