There is a drafting and approval process for amendments.

Who drafts amendments? All amendments are drafted by Parliamentary Counsel. Instructions should be given to them as early as possible to allow sufficient time for drafting and discussions. |

Approving the draft The member needs to tell Parliamentary Counsel as soon as he or she approves the draft. Then: |

Parliamentary Counsel send a copy to the Assembly Procedure Office. Staff, in consultation with the Clerk, check that the draft follows procedural and constitutional requirements. |

after this check, Parliamentary Counsel send to the Procedure Office the final version of the amendment. |

the Procedure Office prepares copies of the amendment. The copies are stored confidentially in the Assembly until the member is ready to circulate them during debate. |
