Parliament House graduation for young Muslim leaders

Participants in this year's Muslim Leadership Program run by La Trobe University's Centre for Dialogue have held their graduation ceremony at Victoria's Parliament House.

Speaker Christine Fyffe welcomed the graduates, who had completed a five week course involving workshops, seminars and lectures on domestic and international issues.

Fines imposed on MPs by the Victorian Legislative Assembly will this year be helping the fight against bowel cancer.

UK Speaker welcomed to Victorian Parliament

House of Commons Speaker John Bercow has been welcomed to the Victorian Parliament by Speaker Christine Fyffe and Legislative Council President Bruce Atkinson.

The UK Speaker is undertaking an official visit to Australia and toured Victoria's Parliament House during his stay in Melbourne. Later in the morning he met with the Victorian Governor.

Samoan MPs visit Victoria

A parliamentary delegation from Samoa, led by the Speaker, has visited Parliament House in Melbourne as part of a three city program aimed at further developing relations with Australian parliaments.

The Samoan MPs were keen to learn about the way in which Australian parliaments deal with a range of parliamentary issues, including procedures for debates, budget processes, conduct of committee inquiries and relations between parliament and the media.

Puppy at Parliament

Seeing eye dog Becky has been roaming the corridors of Parliament House to help raise awareness among MPs about living with blindness and low vision.

The canine visitor was part of a Vision Australia information session that included displays about the services available to people with varying degrees of vision loss.
