The Serjeant-at-Arms

Other functions of the Serjeant-at-Arms

Summary

The Serjeant-at-Arms also performs duties which concern the management and security of Parliament.

Management duties:

·

Arranging and coordinating ceremonial functions, members’ accommodation and travel requirements.

·

Issuing security and identification passes.

·

Maintaining the Legislative Assembly Members List and its distribution.

·

Supervising and organising works and services for the Legislative Assembly precincts.

·

Supervising the Legislative Assembly attendants and cleaning staff.

·

Organising public tours and supervising public entry to the Parliament.

·

Providing parliamentary accreditation for all media representatives.

·

Monitoring public demonstrations and ensuring these events run smoothly.

Security. Together with the Usher of the Black Rod, the Serjeant-at-Arms is also responsible for:

·

The security and fire protection of Parliament House.

·

Emergency and evacuation procedures.

·

Supervision of Protective Service Officers stationed at Parliament House.
