The Governor

Summary

The Queen is represented in Victoria by the GovernorProfessor David de Kretser, AC is the Governor of Victoria. He was appointed on 7 April 2006.

Monarch's representative

1 Appointment. The Governor is appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Premier and may be dismissed in the same manner.

Royal Assent. All legislation passed by Parliament must be approved by the Governor.

Authority. The Governor may prorogue or dissolve the Assembly.

First Governor. Charles La Trobe is considered to be the first Governor of Victoria. He was the Superintendent and Lieutanant Governor between 1839 and 1854.
