There are rules relevant to making personal explanations in the Legislative Assembly.

An explanation should be brief and be a simple statement of fact. |

In making an explanation a member must not argue about differences of opinion. |
|
· |
No new information should be introduced when making the explanation; all a member can do is correct the record. |

· |
Personal explanations must not be debated. |
|
· |
Personal explanations should be heard in silence by other members in the Chamber. |
|
· |
The explanation should only deal with matters that affect the member personally. |
|
· |
A member must not use the opportunity to make charges against or attacks upon another member. |
|
· |
When making the explanation the member must not make any comments other than the text agreed and approved by the Speaker. If this occurs the Speaker may stop the member from continuing. |

· |
A member cannot make a personal explanation on behalf of another member. |
|
· |
A member cannot enter into general debate when making a personal explanation. |
