Finding Information about Parliament

Visiting Parliament House

Summary

We have many visitors each year. Some come to admire the heritage building and others to watch the parliamentary debates.

Information for visitors

  1. When are tours available? Guided tours are conducted on non-sitting days free of charge. On Tuesdays during a sitting week, tours are conducted in the mornings. On other sitting days normal tours do not operate, but members of the public may come in to watch Parliament sitting.

Tours at Parliament are usually held at these times:

 G

10.00 am, 11.00 am, 12 noon, 2.00 pm, 3.00 pm and 3.45 pm

If you are unable to visit in person, Parliament’s internet site provides an excellent virtual tour:

  1. School tour groups. School groups should contact Karen Dowling, Education Officer, Parliament House for any information about tours. To book a tour, schools should call the Tour Booking Office.

School tours are conducted as above, except for 12.00 noon. On sitting days tours can be arranged for school groups taking a maximum of 60 students in one time slot, at either 9.45 am or 10.45 am.

Members of Parliament from both Houses are notified of the bookings from schools in their electorates, and some members are able to arrange to meet these groups. As there is a high demand for tours, schools are advised to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
