The Parliament of Victoria has a different role from the Federal Parliament based in Canberra (also known as the Commonwealth Parliament). Each Parliament has responsibility for different areas of the law.
Responsibilities of the Federal Parliament. The Commonwealth can make laws on issues such as taxation, defence, foreign trading, divorce, immigration and industrial arbitration.
