The standard procedure for a right of reply submission is outlined briefly below.

Submission to the Speaker. The individual referred to in debate (the applicant) sends a written submission to the Speaker. |

Consideration by the Speaker. If the Speaker is satisfied that the requirements under Standing Order 227 have been met, the submission is referred to the Privileges Committee. |

3 |
Initial consideration by the Privileges Committee. The Committee reviews the submission see if it should be considered. |

|
4 |
Detailed consideration by the Privileges Committee. The Committee reviews the submission and decides an appropriate response. |
|
|
5 |
Recommendation of the Privileges Committee. If the Committee decides to consider the submission it may recommend to the House that: |

· no further action is taken; or |

|
· an approved response is published or incorporated into Hansard. |
